Coronavirus: USL extends training prohibition

Coronavirus: USL extends training prohibition

March 21, 2020 By Juan Aguerrevere
The United Soccer League announced on Friday that it extended its training moratorium for USL Championship and League One clubs through, and including, Sunday, April 5, along with the MLS and the NWSL.

The pause in training extension arrive after the league had already extended its season suspension through May 10. The USL originally announced a month-long suspension of both the USL Championship, which had just begun at the time and the USL League One season, which was set to begin in March.

The Tampa, Fla., based professional soccer organization has made its decisions based on the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“It was very clear from our owners that the health and safety of players, fans and staff was their top priority,” USL CEO Alec Papadakis said in the statement.

League officials will continue to work with the CDC and other health authorities at the local, state and national levels, the USL Player Association, and other American professional sports organizations to ensure safety for its players, staff and fans.
