In response to the suspension of the Spanish league, teams have found ways to fill the void with another football activity online.

La Liga clubs have found a way of filling the void of no live football during the coronavirus pandemic and will feature in a virtual tournament on EA Sports' FIFA 20. The competition, which commenced on Friday, had a player representing each of the top-flight clubs in the league.

The idea was initially coined by Spanish Youtuber Ibai Llanos. Llanos saw the need for the virtual tournament to be staged after his online replication of the Sevilla-Real Betis derby - a game which was suspended as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak - earned massive traction. Sergio Reguilon and Betis striker Borja Iglesias were the players and their clash was viewed by over 60,000 fans. The match ended in a 5-5 draw in regulation time.
