The French midfielder is expected to form a formidable partnership with the Portuguese when he returns from injury.

Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has opined that Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes may struggle to form a solid midfield partnership should the former return to action following his injury lay-off. The ex-Bulgaria international has attributed his reason to the similarity in the style of play of both players.

While it is widely known of Paul Pogba and his agent Mino Raiola wanting a transfer away from Man Utd, the French midfielder could be forced to see out the two years remaining on his current contract. Although the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus are said to be monitoring the 27-year-old's situation at Old Trafford, the possibility of him forming midfield partnership with new-boy Bruno Fernandes exists as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has often stressed on his importance to the side.

An injury to Pogba earlier in the season forced United into purchasing the former Sporting CP skipper and the decision has evidently paid off with the player becoming an instant hit in the Premier League. With Bruno having established himself as an influential figure in the dressing room, many are already drooling over the prospective partnership between him and the ex-Juve star. Nevertheless, Berbatov does not fully buy into the idea of the pair excelling together considering the nature of their style.

In his column for Betfair, the 39-year-old ex-Red Devil explained that inasmuch as he would love for the former Juventus stay to at Manchester United, he has doubt about how he would be utilized properly alongside Bruno Fernandes. "I don't know if Fernandes and Pogba can play together," he expressed.

"As a fan of Paul Pogba, I want him to stay at United, I think it would be best for him, but I am curious to see how he will link up with Fernandes.

"They're similar players, both intelligent enough to think three steps ahead when they're on the ball. Sometimes footballers are too similar to play together.

"But I hope that's not the case here because, with Fernandes and Pogba in the same midfield, United could be a very imaginative team that would surprise opponents next season or even sooner."

Since arriving at Manchester United, Bruno Fernandes - who was recently adjudged the PFA Player of the Month - has been involved in seven goals in nine appearances. Relatively, prior to his injury, Paul Pogba registered two assist in eight outings this season.
