The European Championship, scheduled to take place this summer, is under heavy doubt due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today is Tuesday, meaning UEFA are holding a crucial meeting to decide the fate of the several competitions, from the Champions and Europa Leagues to the domestic top-flights to Euro 2020.

The European Championship, which was expected to take place this summer, looks to be postponed as the continent continues their battle with the vastly-spreading virus. According to Danish news outlet B.T., UEFA have given their biggest sign that they intend on delaying Euro 2020 until 2021.

The report claims European football's governing body have cancelled all their hotel bookings in Copenhagen, a host city for four games, which were held for the months of June and July. Booking.com, the organization's official accommodation partner, were holding those booking but have released them last week.

"I can confirm that our rooms booked for Euro 2020 at the CPH Hotel in DGI City have been released by Booking.com last week," said Kevin Helsingholf, commercial director of the DGI city.

"They had booked almost the entire hotel for UEFA - about 80 percent of our capacity.

"The reservation has been there for a long time. They released the rooms last week on release day - the last day you can cancel without a direct financial loss on subsequent cancellation."

As for the Champions League, Europa League, and domestic top-flights, the preference is to wrap them up rather than cancel the remainder of the season. Should Euro 2020 be pushed back, that would free up the summer but it should be noted that there are several other competitions set to take place which would affect club football i.e. Copa America and the Olympics.

Furthermore, pushing back the men's European Championship would create a knock-on effect on the competitions scheduled for 2021 such as the Women's Euros and the UEFA Nations League.
