CONCACAF Champions League - Quarter finals preview, first leg

March 10, 2020 By Oscar Rojas
The battle to become the best team in CONCACAF will carry on this week with a host of interesting games taking place in the northern hemisphere.

The 2020 CONCACAF Champions League gets to the last eight phase, with all the clubs trying to take the title left vacant by Liga MX champions Monterrey.

Liga MX and MLS sides dominate the slots in this phase, with three teams per league. Even so, there are two more teams involved in the tournament that could shock any of them and make their way into the semis.

The games will be taking place between Tuesday and Thursday, with Wednesday carrying two ties for all fans to watch. All return legs will be held next week in the same order as they will be played in the next three days. Let's have a look at all four pairings.

Tuesday, March 10

Montreal Impact (CAN-MLS) vs Olimpia (HON) - The Canadian side shocked Saprissa in the Round of 16, and they will be facing the team that eliminated the current MLS champions. Although we can anticipate a tie that could be solved by a narrow margin, it will be interesting to see how Thierry Henry sets up his team with the second leg being played next week away from home.

Wednesday, March 11

New York City FC (MLS) vs Tigres UANL (MEX) - The team from the Big Apple will lock horns against the 2019 runners-up, who struggled quite a bit to eliminate El Salvador's Alianza. This will be a game that will see Tigres being put to test by the New Yorkers, who could make their trip to New York a nightmare.

América (MEX) vs Atlanta United (MLS) - Las Águilas needed penalties to make it to this round, and now they will have a chance to earn some payback against the Five Stripes, who beat them last year in the Campeones Cup clash. This Liga MX-MLS clash will have two exciting sides facing each other, and will have the added bonus of watching De Boer's men visiting the Mexican capital for the first time in history.

Thursday, March 12

Los Angeles FC (MLS) vs Cruz Azul (MEX) - LAFC's first home game in this competition ended in a goalscoring fiesta, and they will need one of those to try and eliminate the current Liga MX leaders. As for Cruz Azul, this will be a game that could give fans and experts an idea on what to expect from them on both competitions. Will Bob Bradley's men give their fans their money's worth? All we know is that you shouldn't miss this clash!
