The midfielder passed on an offer to play for the Red Devils this season.

Former Liverpool star Emre Can has confirmed that he received an offer from Manchester United but refused the advances of the Red Devils. Instead, the 26-year-old German international opted for a move to Borussia Dortmund with the Red Devils also oursuing other targets.

Emre Can joined Juventus in 2018 after a four year spell with Liverpool but failed to make a mark with the Serie A outfit. With the midfielder getting limited playing opportunities under Maurizio Sarri, there was the need for him to look elsewhere. Last summer saw the former Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen player being linked with a move to Manchester United but nothing substantial emerged with the Red Devils doing very little business in the transfer market.

Can's desire to get more playing time led him to agree to a loan to Borussia Dortmund in January and the German midfielder has since featured in seven matches for Die BVB, scoring in his Bundesliga debut. Last month, the Signal Iduna Park outfit acquired the service of the former Liverpool star permanently by activating a clause in his initial loan deal.

However, prior to penning the four-and-a-half deal with the 2011/2012 Bundesliga champions earlier this year, Can was presented the opportunity to seal a move to Old Trafford should his loan spell expire. In an interview with Kicker, the central midfielder revealed that three Premier League clubs - which included the Red Devils - were eager to secure his service.

"I had three Premier League deals alone, including one from Manchester United," he said.

"But I didn't think about that for a second because of my Liverpool past."

In his four seasons for the Reds, Can made 166 appearances for the Reds and scored 14 goals in total.
