Arsenal have received a huge blow ahead of their Premier League clash with Man City as one key player looks to be out for the remainder of the season. That man is none other than Lucas Torreira.
The Uruguayan ace picked up a horrendous ankle injury during their FA Cup win over Portsmouth and had to be stretchered off the pitch. Fans immediately began worrying about their midfielder, who had been nothing short of impressive since Arteta took over.
The Gunners have now confirmed the extent of Torreira’s injury, revealing that the 24-year-old suffered an ankle fracture. As a result, he is expected to be out for anything from eight to 10 weeks.
Should he be out for 10 weeks, this means Lucas would be out for the rest of the Premier League season as the north London giants’ last game is scheduled for May 17 against Watford. This comes as a huge blow as Arteta’s side aims to grab a top-four finish.
Given their Europa League exit, Arsenal’s only route back into Europe is through a top-four finish – top five if Man City are banned from the Champions League by CAS. As mentioned earlier, Torreira has been tremendous under the current boss, a far cry from his struggles at the beginning of the campaign under Emery.
