The English footballer has Jose Mourinho's full support following his reaction after a member of his family got into an argument with a Spurs fan.

Eric Dier's appalling reaction right after Tottenham's loss in the FA Cup keeps making headlines, and this time the reasons behind such a harsh reaction have been revealed by a source close to the team.

According to a report by The Mirror, the player decided to jump into the stands after he noticed a fan was about to hurt one of his brothers, Patrick. The altercation began when Dier's 22-year-old sibling confronted the fan for his continuous verbal abuse against Eric Dier. When the player noticed this, he decided to take matters into his own hands.

Today, the player was cited by FA execs in charge of the investigation and further punishment against the midfielder, and that's where the Mirror's source comes in.

"He felt he had no choice but to step in. He accepts he is going to get punished," the source told the newspaper.

Meanwhile, Tottenham execs are conducting their own investigation of the incident, which could result in a heavy ban slapped on the footballer. The first order of business in their agenda is to identify the fan, and once they do, they will ask for his side of the story.

Even though the club is ready to exercise disciplinary action against Dier, coach José Mourinho does not want his footballer to be punished.

"If the club does that I will disagree. But we all know that he did wrong," Mourinho stated.
