The Dutch goalkeeper aided Norwich to eliminate Spurs from the English domestic cup on penalties.

Norwich City has progressed to the quarterfinals of the Emirates FA Cup thanks to Tim Krul's penalty shootout heroics against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday . The 31-year-old Netherland shot-stopper's saves proved to be vital as his side clinched a 3-2 victory from the spot-kicks following a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.

With initial indications pointing at a win for Spurs after Jan Vertongen had opened the scoring in the first half, Josip Drmic gave Norwich a lifeline in the 78th minute by capitalizing on a goalkeeping mistake by Michel Vorm. The game was the forced into extra-time where both teams failed to find the back of the net after another 30 minutes of play.

Then came Tim Krul's big moment once more and the former Newcastle goalie stepped up to deliver a performance reminiscent of his famed exploits in the Netherlands against Costa Rica penalty shootouts at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Quite unconventionally, the goalkeeper lined up in his post with the names of all the Tottenham penalty takers written on his water bottle.

In the end, he managed to save the attempts of Troy Parrot and Gedson Fernandes after Erik Lamela had blasted his effort over the bar. Only Eric Dier converted the spot-kick for Spurs whiles Adam Idah, Marc Stiepermann and Todd Cantwell ensured that the Norwich sail through despite Michel Vorm saving Kenny McLean's attempt.

In essence, the Canaries secured their first qualification to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup in 28 years. Daniel Farke's men will welcome the winner of the Derby and Manchester United game in the next round of the competition.
