According to reports in Spain, one of their top midfielders is getting ready to leave the club, especially since the team's hierarchy has not kept up its promise of a contract improvement.
That player is none other than Ivan Rakitic, who would be set to leave Barcelona to join La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid next summer. With the player's current deal expiring in 2021, the Croatian footballer is looking for the proper kind of destination, knowing that his transfer fee will not be as high as expected by fans since he is out of a contract and could arrive to a new club on a free transfer in a bit over a year.
Negotiations have already started between Rakitic and Atlético, but both parties have agreed to delay all developments until the summer transfer window. According to Marca, Rakitic has already stated the terms in which he'd be willing to play for Atlético, and Los Colchoneros have reportedly started plotting the necessary moves to see the Croatian player making his way to Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
Rakitic is interested in keeping his residence in Spain, mainly because his family is already used to life in that country. This issue would see the Croatian ace dismissing an existing offer from Inter Milan and PSG, but only time will tell if Los Colchoneros can come up with the kind of deal Rakitic wants.
