The 6-time Ballon D'Or winner was not decisive to his team's performance on Sunday, and there were some that were not ready to let that go.

Once again, Lionel Messi failed to make a difference in El Clásico for Barcelona, and those that have criticized his legacy as the world's best footballer of all time took aim at the Argentine.

Speaking in his capacity as a pundit in El Chiringuito, former goalkeeper and Boca Juniors legend Hugo Gatti stepped up to slam Lionel Messi's poor performance against Real Madrid, calling him a "former footballer" for the way he seemed to be tired on the pitch.

"It hurts me to say this because I'm Argentine and I love him. Messi is the best player in the world, but when his team needs him the most, he disappears. He is nowhere to be found in crucial games," Gatti said.

"El Loco" went on further by adding that Messi seems tired and beaten both phisically and mentally.

"You can always defend him as a footballer, but he seems like he had retired a while ago lately. He's lost his speed and his one-on-one skills. He's mentally beaten. He has a sad face, but it's sadder these days. He doesn't inspire anyone. He's nowhere, you need to give him a shot to lift him up," the former footballer added.

Before his intervention in the show ended, Gatti added that the Argentinean National Team will make a big mistake if they want to build the team around him for the 2022 World Cup.

"If Argentina is waiting for Messi to save them in the World Cup, they will be out of luck. Let time put everyone in their place," Gatti concluded.

The former goalie's words might seem a bit harsh for most, but when you realize that "La Pulga" has not scored or assisted in Barcelona's last five Clásicos, Gatti's words make more sense.

Now, the Argentine footballer will try to lead Barcelona back to winning ways against Real Sociedad next weekend, and being as comfortable as he feels at Camp Nou, chances look good for Barcelona in that clash.
