The Argentine looks set to grab another record in this historic fixture when his side visit the Bernabeu.

El Clasico is upon us, with Sunday being the date for the latest clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona. This match will see Lionel Messi lead the Blaugrana onto the Santiago Bernabue pitch, a ground where he has excelled at for his club.

The Argentine superstar holds several records in this famous clash and on Sunday, the 32-year-old could enter the record books for another time. The only thing he needs to do to make history this weekend is feature in the highly-anticipated match.

Bar an unfortunate injury, Leo will break the record for the most number of appearances for a Barcelona player in El Clasico. That number currently stands at 42 which La Pulga shares with iconic midfielder Xavi.

The all-time Clasico appearance holder is Sergio Ramos with 43 matches. This means should the Real Madrid captain miss out on the weekend clash, the six-time Ballon d’Or winner could equal that record as well.

Despite this, the only important thing in this match is the three points. Setien’s side currently lead the table but are only two points ahead of Zidane’s crew. Should they secure an away victory, they would move five points clear at the top. Defeat would see them drop back down to second.
