Barca suffers injury setback ahead of UCL, Clasico

Barcelona suffers injury setback ahead of Napoli clash and El Clasico

February 23, 2020 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
Los Blaugrana will be without one of their key players for a few run of matches.

Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto has been ruled out of action for the upcoming games against Napoli and Real Madrid, a club statement confirmed on Sunday. The 25-year-old Spaniard is expected to be out of action for the next two to three weeks after injuring one of the adductor muscles in his right thigh.

The versatile talisman has once again been crucial to Barca's charge this season having already featured in 29 matches across all competition. His ability to adapt to a number of positions has made him a real asset for the Catalans who have had a share of ill-luck with injuries in the ongoing campaign. As a result, his latest plight comes as a massive blow as far as their chances are concerned in the upcoming meetings with Napoli and Real.

In Sergi Roberto's absence, his usual make-shift right-back position should be occupied by the Nelson Semedo. In the midfield, Frenkie De Jong and Arthur look set to partner Sergio Busquets while Arturo Vidal and Ivan Rakitic act as first-hand subordinates.

With Roberto also incapacitated, Barcelona is now without four first-tem players for the forseeable future. The Blaugrana's trio of Luis Suárez, Ousmane Dembélé and Jordi Alba are yet to make significant progress recovery and are certainly ruled out of action against the Partenopei and Los Blancos.

Meanwhile, six members of Barça B namely Iñaki Peña, Riqui Puig, Alex Collado, Ansu Fati, Ronald Araujo and Sergio Akieme have been summoned and will make the trip to both Naples and Madrid. Relatively, new-boy Martin Braithwaite will be with the team in Italy but is ineligible to play as he was not registered for the Champions League.
