Messi makes admission on Barca's UCL chances

Messi makes shocking -but honest- admission about Barcelona's UCL chances

February 20, 2020 By Oscar Rojas
The Argentine ace discussed a variety of topics in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, including his four candidates to win the continental title.

Lionel Messi's interview for Mundo Deportivo may have left fans a bit baffled, especially when he discussed the team's chances of winning the UEFA Champions League.

The Argentine ace honestly admitted that it will be hard to see Barcelona lifting that title this year, although he'd love to prove himself wrong.

"If we want to win the Champions we have to keep growing as a team, especially since I believe that up to this point we don't have what it takes to win the Champions League. I hope it happened, because ever since we won the last one I've been desperate to enjoy that feeling again," Messi said.

The Argentine footballer went on to discuss which teams have what it takes to take the trophy home.

"All the teams left are complicated to beat. Paris went to Dortmund and lost, Liverpool lost against Atlético, but even so, I believe that Liverpool, Paris (Saint-Germain), Juventus and Real Madrid are the strongest candidates to win it," Messi added.

Being eliminated twice in a row after dropping massive leads is something Messi has not been able to figure out. Which one of those eliminations was harded for the Argentine to digest? His answer might be shocking to some.

"I can't explain it yet. Especially the game against Liverpool. You can experience what happened in Roma and it may be shocking, but watching it happen again the next year and with the result we had in our hands, it's really hard to explain," Messi stated.

The Argentine player discussed the "little details" Barcelona needs to improve in order to win the UEFA Champions League this season.

"We have to be more consistent. We have to take these new things we're practicing now and be more reliable, we have to avoid some dumb mistakes we made in the past seasons and during this one , and try not to stop thinking, like we did against Roma and Liverpool, when we seemed to be disconnected from the game and we were kicked out of the tournament," Messi concluded.
