Barcelona set to miss out on new striker

Barcelona handed massive blow in search for Dembelé's replacement

February 18, 2020 By Oscar Rojas
The Blaugrana side was given fifteen days to complete a deal, but it seems that all teams are reluctant to give away their assets.

Barcelona is desperate to end their search for a new striker, and while the club still has a few options up their sleeve, it seems that those clubs owning the players they want are not willing to part ways with them, mainly because they will not have the chance to replace them.

With Barcelona's search limited strictly to players performing in Spain, Los Culés have been forced to consider options they wouldn't consider otherwise. Such is the case of Willian José and Loren Morón, who turned down a move to the Camp Nou. The latest name to emerge is that of Leganés' striker Martin Braithwaite, and club owner Felipe Moreno handed a massive blow to the La Liga holders in their attempt to sign the Danish striker.

"I don't know if someone from Barcelona will come today. The player is off today and we haven't spoken with him. I understand Braithwaite wanting to leave for Barcelona, I would also do it. But one thing's for sure: we're not going to negotiate. Either they pay his buyout clause, or he will stay," Moreno stated.

The 28-year-old has scored eight goals in all comps for Leganés this season.

Moreno admitted that there's nothing they can do if Barcelona comes up with the $21M buyout clause included in the player's deal, but they'd be keen on holding on to the player as Leganés is currently involved in the battle to avoid relegation.

"Honestly, we're a bit worried. After what happened with En-Nesyri, avoiding relegation is getting more complicated with each passing day. We will find out in the next few hours if he leaves or not," Moreno added.

Leganés is currently 19th in La Liga, two points behind 17th-place Celta. Braithwaite is the team's top scorer with six goals, which represents a third of the total amount scored by Leganés all season.
