The Uruguayan was expected to miss the remainder of the season but that might not be the case.

Barcelona have received a huge boost amid their injury crisis, with Luis Suarez impressing the medical staff in his road to recovery. In fact, according to Goal, the Blaugrana now hope to have him back before the season ends.

The Uruguayan ace suffered a serious knee injury, the same knee that has been troubling him in recent seasons, during the 3-2 loss to Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup. As a result, the former Liverpool man underwent surgery and was initially expected to miss the remainder of the season.

This left the Catalan giants with a huge problem. Despite his poor fitness, Suarez remains the club’s second-leading scorer and remains Messi’s right-hand man. Fortunately, the 33-year-old could return in time for a few crucial games.

Goal write that is recovery is progressing well and that the South American ace is no longer in crutches. As a result, Suarez believes he could be back by late April.

This means he could be available for the Champions League semi-finals, should Barcelona reach the penultimate stage once again. Furthermore, the Uruguayan could feature in the final four games of the Spanish top-flight season. This is crucial as Setien’s side are locked in a heated race with Real Madrid, with the Blaugrana trailing Los Blancos by three points.

Despite this positive update, it does nothing to alleviate Barcelona’s current injury crisis. Dembele is out for the season, leaving the reigning champions with only three fit senior attackers, one of which is a teenager: Messi, Griezmann, and Fati. The club are reportedly looking to sign Real Sociedad’s Willian Jose or Getafe’s Angel Rodriguez, with RFEF rules permitting this even outside of the transfer window if a player is ruled out for five or more months.
