The Blaugrana winger will continue his recovery in the course of the next six month after Tuesday's operation.

French winger Ousmane Dembele is ruled out of action for the rest of the season, an official statement by Barcelona confirmed. The 23-year-old attacker is set to be unavailable for the next six months after successfully undergoing a hamstring surgery on Tuesday.

Dembele recently showed up at Barca's training facility to complete a one-on-one session with a personal trainer as he continued to recover from a long-term injury. However, the former Borussia Dortmund star suffered yet another setback and picked up a discomfort in his leg.

A medical examination later revealed that the Frenchman had tore a tendon in his right leg's hamstring and required an immediate operation. On Monday, the World Cup winner traveled to Finland where he had a surgery to be performed by esteemed doctor Lasse Lampainen scheduled for the day after.

"First team player Ousmane Dembéle has successfully undergone surgery in Turku, Finland where he was operated on by Dr. Lasse Lempainen for a ruptured tendon in his proximal hamstring in his right thigh," the club statement read.

"The Frenchman will be out for around 6 months.

"The striker was continuing his recovery from the hamstring injury when he was forced to retire from a training session at the Ciutat Esportiva last week. Subsequent tests confirmed a complete rupture to the tendon in the proximal hamstring of his right leg."

According to AS, Ousmane Dembele's recent injury is the same as the one he had a surgery on in his left leg back in 2017. Meanwhile, Barcelona is said to be waiting for the go ahead from Spanish Football Federation to sign the winger's replacement despite the transfer window closing. The likes of Willian Jose, Lucas Perez, Angel Rodriguez and Loren Moron are all speculated to be potential targets for Quique Setien's side.
