The companies, Secret and Budweiser, shined the spotlight on some of the U.S. Women’s National Team members in their Super Bowl LIV halftime commercials, and it was awesome.

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in what some football (soccer) fans might refer to as 'Fergie time.' It was an exciting evening for Americans and anyone else who tuned into the match. It was packed with great defense, deep passes from quarterback Patrick Mahomes and a halftime show where Shakira and Jennifer Lopez rocked the whole world around.

And if you were paying attention to the Super Bowl half-time commercials – as everyone does – then you probably noticed some members of the USWNT in a couple of commercials.

Typical Americans

One of the commercial celebrated "typical Americans." The voiceover points out things that Americans are usually criticized for: showing off their strength, touching other people's things, being competitive, showing up uninvited, removing their clothes in public, being loud, and celebrating. But each time one of these things are mentioned, the footage shows an act of kindness or empowerment. Guess what footage Budweiser decided to use for those who celebrate. Of course, none other than footage from the USWNT's famous locker room celebrations including a shot of now married Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris.

"Typical Americans, always celebrating with their typical American beers."

Budweiser and the World Champions have been together for a while now. The American company was a sponsor has been the sponsor of US Soccer for years now. The official twitter account even congratulated them after Megan Rapinoe and the rest of the squad lifted the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Secret Deodorant: Kick inequality

As for the second commercial, Crystal Dunn set Carli Lloyd up for a game-winning field goal that made fans get off their seats and scream, only to later find out that it was two women who made that happen. The celebrations stop for a split second when Dunn and Lloyd remove their helmets as some people are impressed by the fact that two women are on the field. But the celebrations carried on. Well done Secret Deodorant.

The idea of this advertisement probably comes from all the talk revolving around Carli Lloyd's 55-yard field goal completed attempt in a joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens after France 2019. This moment also landed her a scene in the official NFL Super Bowl LIV commercial.

This is the type of energy needed all-year-round to reach equality in the sport.
