Ronaldo hits FIVE milestones in Fiorentina win

Cristiano Ronaldo hits FIVE major milestones with brace vs Fiorentina

February 2, 2020 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Portuguese forward picked up five goal-scoring feats as his side cruised to a 3-0 home win on Sunday.

Sunday's Serie A clash between Juventus and Fiorentina saw Cristiano Ronaldo reach a number of milestones with his contribution in the former's win. The 34-year-old Portuguese superstar scored twice from the penalty spot to take his tally for the Old Ladies to 50 goals in 70 matches while grabbing other records on the way.

The afternoon's encounter was ushered into life in the 40th minute after a penalty decision went the way of Miralem Pjanic following a VAR review. The Bosnian had his goal-bound shot handled by Fiorentina's German Pezzella in the 18-yard box and Cristiano Ronaldo subsequently stepped up to convert the resulting infringement.

With 10 minutes of regulation time left to be played, VAR confirmed yet another penalty decision in favor of the Bianconeri. This time, Rodrigo Bentancur was the beneficiary after having his movement impeded in Fiorentina's penalty box. Yet again, Ronaldo finished off the opportunity before Mathjias de Ligt wrapped up the win with a thumping header on the end of a Paulo Dybala delivery.

Bar the landmark of scoring half-a-century of career goals for Juvenutus in 70 games, Ronaldo also became the fastest player to do so in the history of the club. The former Real Madrid ace also successfully equaled a club record set by David Trezeguet 14 years ago, becoming only the second player in the history of the Turin club to score in nine successive Serie A matches. He is two games shy of the all-time Serie A record of scoring in 11 successive games held by Argentine legend Gabriel Batistuta.

Furthermore, Cristiano Ronaldo also became the first player in history to score in nine consecutive matches in the UEFA Champions League, La Liga and the Serie A. His legacy in the latter is also shaping up well as he is yet to be outscored by any player since arriving in the league last season. So far, he has scored 40 goals in the Italian league.
