Given the injury to Marcus Rashford, Man United were in need of a new striker in the January transfer market. While the club were linked with the likes of Slimani, Piatek, and Joshua King; the man the Red Devils ended up signing was none of the above.
The man the Red Devils eventually ended up with is Odion Ighalo, the former Watford player who was plying his trade in China. The Nigerian ace will move to Old Trafford on a loan deal from Shanghai Shenhua with no option to buy.
The 30-year-old played at Vicarage Road from 2014 to 2017 and left the English top-flight with a respectable goalscoring record, netting 39 times in 99 matches for the Hornets. Ighalo reportedly turned down other Premier League clubs as he preferred a move to Old Trafford.
However, there is no hiding that this is not the most inspiring transfer business. Furthermore, there have been claims that his Man United arrival could be delayed for a few weeks due to the coronavirus crisis occurring in China.
This deal had many talking on social media. Many were backing the signing, pointing to his respectable numbers in front of goal. Others shared hilarious thoughts on Ighalo's loan move to the Theatre of Dreams. Check out the best tweets below.

Ighalo can finally trouble defenders with his physicality, has a strikers positioning and be at the end of crosses. (Something we've been lacking)

#mufc's new signings Odion Ighalo and Bruno Fernandes were briefly team-mates at Udinese. Ighalo spent most of that season on loan at Granada in Spain though

Short-term option in a position we desperately needed. Course he isn't our first choice target but let's all get behind him and hopefully he can contribute to us getting top 4. #MUFCpic.twitter.com/lresyxD7Ex
