Manchester City and Arsenal. Two giants in English women’s football who have taken jabs at each other ever since City became serious business at the turn of the last decade.
Having won one league title, two FA Women’s Cup and three FA WSL Continental Cups since 2014, it is clear that Man City has pestered the Gunners regarding space to be filled in their already decorated trophy room. Anyhow, this is another one of many tense meetings that both sides have endured before as they enter matchday 14 with 33 points and only one goal separating them – Manchester City top Arsenal. But most importantly, Chelsea is only a point behind the two heads, one less match played and extremely close in goal differential.
The Manchester club has held on to first place by the thinnest hair, a one goal differential. Arsenal do trail in save and clean sheet percentage with .735 and 61.5 respectively, while Man City holds a strong .865 save percentage and 69.2%. The Gunners do have more goals in the season and the top goalscorer/assistant in Vivianne Miedema.
Manchester City vs Arsenal: Head-to-head
These two sides meet again after just four days when Arsenal defended Meadow Park in a 2-1 win against the Citizens to reach the final of the FA WSL Continental Cup. Nick Cushing’s Man City surrendered the Continental Cup and are hoping for their first win against the North London club since February 2019.
Since Manchester City claimed the FA WSL Cup in 2014, the record stands even with six wins for each club. But Joe Montemurro’s women have won the last three meetings, all by minimal difference.
Cushing has one more chance at revenge on this upcoming Tuesday before he part ways with the women’s team and heads over to the United States to sit beside Ronny Delia as assistant manager of New York City FC.
Players to watch
Vivianne Miedema
Miedema doesn’t need to prove herself anymore after scoring 22 FA WSL goals last season and 14 in the current one. But the relentless 23-year-old won’t back down any time soon. Along with her 14 goals, she has assisted eight times and showing her inner playmaking self. Miedema was key in Arsenal’s win against Man City during the weekend providing a goal and an assist.

Ellen White
The World Cup star heads into this matchup with three goals in her previous two matches. White scored a brace in last weekend’s Manchester Derby where the Citizens came out on top 3-2. Her third goal came against Birmingham City in a 2-0 win away from Manchester. The English forward is well-known for her ability to get in open areas inside the 18 and her finishing.
