Barca ends Rodrigo pursuit, targets Ajax star

Transfer: Barcelona ends Rodrigo Moreno pursuit, eyes Ajax star as alternative

January 28, 2020 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
Los Blaugrana have pulled the plug on the striker's move to Camp Nou.

Talks between Barcelona and Valencia regarding the transfer of Rodrigo Moreno has broken down, a report from Spain on Tuesday evening confirmed. The two clubs were believed to be close to finalizing the agreement the day before but the negotiations have since been terminated after both failed to meet on a common ground.

On Monday, multiple reports from Spain confirmed that the president of Valencia and super-agent Jorge Mendes had arrived in Barcelona to iron out the last bit of details left for Rodrigo's purported move to be made official. The details of the deal was indicated that striker will first join the Catalans on loan for the rest of the season while the club retains the option to buy him permanently for about 60 million euros at the end of the season.

An agreement was not reached despite the confidence of both sides and, on Tuesday, a new report revealed that Barca was willing to offer a compromise for signing Los Che's lead striker. This involved the Camp Nou outfit signing Manchester United target Bruno Fernandes from Sporting CP and then loaning him back to Valencia.

As of Tuesday evening, Sky Sports' Gianluca DiMarzio and Fabrizio Romano stated that Bruno Fernandes was almost Manchester-bound with the Red Devils submitting an improved bid to secure his service. In essence, Barcelona felt no need to continue negotiations with their leverage almost gone and maintained that the price for Rodrigo's potential mandatory purchase clause was just too high.

With the deal hitting an impasse, Barcelona is now considering other alternatives and, according to DiMarzio, could be entering negotiations for Ajax attacer Dusan Tadic.
