The Camp Nou outfit has made significant progress in discussions to secure the service of a new frontman.

Barcelona has finally made headway in talks that could see Valencia's Rodrigo Moreno join the club on loan this month, a report from Spain has confirmed. The 28-year-old old Spanish striker is expected to join Los Blaugrana on loan as Luis Suarez's replacement with the Uruguayan striker of out of action for the rest of the season with an injury.

The latter saw his campaign being dealt an abrupt end after he underwent an operation for an injury to the external meniscus of his right knee. As a result, the need to secure his replacement became a neccessity for Barca and Valencia's Rodrigo was tipped as the ideal alternative in a pool of other transfer targets. While talks initially commenced on an progressive note between the two clubs, an impasse was reached after the pair failed to agree on terms.

For Barcelona a loan move with an option to buy at the end of the season will be adequate whereas Valencia is only interested in a loan deal with an obligation to buy for a fee in the region of 60 million euros. According to Sport, the only stumbling block stalling the completion of the deal has been dealt with as Barca has finally offered a compromise.

The Catalan outfit has sanctioned a counter-offer which states that should they fail to make the loan permanent, they will pay a penalty fee to Valencia. In essence, both teams could potentially benefit from a deal of sort as Barca would be replacing the injured Luis Suarez while Valencia would be guaranteed some extra funds regardless the decision of the Camp Nou outfit at the end of the season.

The two clubs are set to go head to head in La Liga on Saturday and a transfer for Rodrigo to move to Barcelona is expected to be completed before the European window closes on January 31.
