Klopp outlines Liverpool's transfer plans

Jurgen Klopp outlines Liverpool's transfer plans, rules out winger's sale

January 22, 2020 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The German manager has made a blunt admission about the prospect of losing one of his squad players.

Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has ruled out the sale of any of his first team players with the January transfer window approaching its end. The German manager's revelation comes amid claims that Xherdan Shaqiri could seal a move away his side this month.

The 28-year-old Swiss attacker has struggled to break into the Reds' starting lineup since joining from Stoke in 2018 but still remains an important figure for the Merseysiders. Despite currently being sidelined with an ankle injury, a number of clubs including Sevilla and AS Roma have expressed interest in securing the service of the winger who has scored once in 10 appearances this season.

Nevertheless, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has insisted that Shaqiri is not for sale as his side does not intend to part ways with any of its squad members. With the transfer window closing in barely a week, the Reds have seemingly closed shop on any potential incomings and outgoings having done a single piece of business with the signing of Takumi Minamino from RB Salzburg.

"We had the majority of December and January with a bench full of kids. Wonderful kids, but kids, so how could we think about giving a player to anyone? I don't understand that," he told a news conference ahead of Thursday's trip to Wolves.

"It's not about Shaq, it's pretty much everybody. We just have to keep them for sorting our situation and not the situation for different clubs.

"If someone came around the corner and asked properly… but that didn't happen.

"Maybe they are desperate, whatever, and we think, but there is absolutely no intention from our side to do anything."
