Cavani's parents share update on player's transfer

Edinson Cavani's parents share update on Atlético Madrid transfer

January 22, 2020 By Oscar Rojas
The Uruguayan striker has already urged PSG to let him leave, but negotiations with Atlético have not been swift.

Popular belief states that family knows best what you need to do, and that surely applies to Edinson Cavani in this case.

Both of the player's parents spoke in different interviews about their son's future, and both of them seem to know what is best for their "kid": a move to Atlético Madrid.

First off, Luis Cavani spoke to Spanish TV show El Chiringuito, where he revealed the reasons why PSG is not ready to part ways with his son just yet.

"PSG execs gave the order, they don't want to sell him until they're out of the UEFA Champions League. They need him to play in the Round of 16, it's a bit curious. I believe they have already spoken to him and the coach told Edi he was not letting him leve, but I know for a fact that he is desperate to do so. He needs to play and right now he's getting three or six minutes per game," Luis Cavani said.

The player's father went on to reveal the reasons why the Uruguayan ace wants to join Atlético Madrid.

"He wants to play under 'Cholo' Simeone. He's a coach with a great personality, all his players give their best when they are around him," Cavani Sr. stated.

Then, the player's mother, Berta Gomez, gave an interview to As where she detailed how things could go down between both clubs in the next few days.

"Look, it's complicated, but he wants to play for Atlético, and if he can't do it right away, he'll sign with them in the summer for sure. It would be grand if it happened, especially since we have been waiting for this chance. Unfortunately, it's not up to my son, it's up to PSG and Atlético," Gómez said.

The player's mom went on to state there have been several instances in which Atlético has tried to lure Cavani away from Parc des Princes.

"Atlético has approached Edi several times, especially after a trip to Spain four years ago. Sometimes it's been Atlético's president calling my boy, and some others, it has been Cholo Simeone on the phone," the player's mother added.

Berta Gómez clarified reports about her son's well-being, while openly admitting that he will push the last mile for the deal to take place.

"He's OK. Those guys saying that he is depressed are wrong. I can tell you that he is really angry, because he can't understand why PSG doesn't let him leave if they do not want him around. He's just training day in and day out, and he's waiting for things to come through," Cavani's mother concluded.
