Liverpool continue making history, Aguero sets excellent feat – Top EPL Matchweek 23 stats

January 20, 2020 By Ali M.
Despite the disappointing result, Aguero reached an excellent feat while Klopp's side remain unstoppable.

The weekend action in the Premier League has wrapped up and it has dished out some disappointing results to England’s top clubs. Man City, Arsenal, and Tottenham were all held to draws by Crystal Palace, Sheffield, and Watford respectively while Chelsea suffered a 1-0 loss away to Newcastle.

Leicester, a club who were once seen as the only team that could stop Liverpool from winning the title, threw away a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 at Burnley. Speaking of Liverpool, the Reds proved once again they’re unstoppable by beating Man United 2-0 at Anfield in an exciting clash.

Here are the best stats from the weekend showdown.

Liverpool 2-0 Man Utd – All the standout stats from the Reds’ win

Liverpool showed once again that they are unstoppable, beating Man United 2-0 on Sunday. It did not take long for the Anfield side to break the deadlock, scoring in the 14th minute via a Van Dijk header. That strike saw Klopp’s side become the first team to score in all of their opening 22 games in almost two decades.

The Reds had to wait until the dying minutes of stoppage time to double their lead, with Alisson’s brilliant pass to Salah resulting in the second goal. The Brazilian shot-stopper became the first Liverpool goalkeeper to assist a goal since Pepe Reina in March 2010, almost 10 years ago.

And that’s how the game ended. The Reds kept a clean sheet, becoming the first team in over a decade to register seven consecutive Premier League clean sheets.

Man City 2-2 Crystal Palace – Disappointing result but memorable game for Aguero

Sergio Aguero recently made history after his hat-trick against Aston Villa in the previous round, becoming the all-time leading non-English goal scorer in the Premier League. After the 2-2 draw with Palace, the Argentine became the outright fourth-leading scorer in Premier League history behind Shearer, Rooney, and Cole.

Watford 0-0 Tottenham – the silver lining in Spurs’ disappointing draw

It was another setback in Tottenham’s top-four hopes. The north London outfit traveled to Watford but could not score in the absence of talisman forward Harry Kane. However, Spurs registered an away clean sheet for the first time since after 18 failed attempts.

Newcastle 1-0 Chelsea – Lampard loses unbeaten run vs Steve Bruce

Frank Lampard had never lost a single game against Steve Bruce as both a player and manager until Saturday. His Chelsea side visited Newcastle but conceded a late goal to lose 1-0. All good records must come to an end.
