Los Blancos claimed a narrow 2-1 win against Sevilla, but the losing side was not satisfied with the ref's performance.

The calm and cool shown by Zinedine Zidane in practically every press conference was nowhere to be found right after the game between Real Madrid and Sevilla.

The match had its fair share of controversial calls, some of which were questioned by Sevilla's coach Julen Lopetegui and his boss, sporting director Ramón Rodríguez "Monchi".

According to "Monchi", Sevilla's first goal had to go up on the scoreboard, but VAR technology and referee Martínez Munuera decided that there had been a foul on Eder Militao prior to Luuk de Jong's header. Then, Sevilla's equalizer was also reviewed with VAR technology due to an alleged handball by Munir El Haddadi before de Jong found the back of the net.

Before Zidane's presser, Monchi said that if Sevilla's second goal of the evening had been disallowed, he would have urged his players to leave the pitch as a form of protest. With that in mind, the French boss decided to share his views on the subject and aimed a dig at the former Roma exec.

"I saw the first goal and there's a block there. There's a foul by Gudelj before the header. There's a handball before their second goal, and he might have said it was not a handball, but I saw it. That's why I try not to talk about the refs, because sometimes their ruling can favor you and sometimes it may not. It's complicated for the refs, but they take a stand. Sevilla can complain, but there's nothing to complain about," Zidane said.

The French manager stated that Monchi's words may be a bit harsh due to what happened on the pitch, even if he feels his team was damaged by the ref's decision.

"He must make himself responsible for what he says. I'm no one to say if he's right or wrong. It's up to the ref to make the call. I believe he's being a bit harsh with his words, but I'm not going to be the someone that tells Sevilla's sports director to shut up," Zidane concluded.
