In October 2018, Mexico suffered a loss that will haunt them for the next four years. El Tri was knocked out by Central American foe, Panama, in the Concacaf Women's Championship group stages. Here are the Mexicans, a year and two months later, in the cusp of entry to Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Mexico is one of three constituents of Group B and a first-place or runner-up finish will earn the nation a spot in the semifinals of the Olympics Qualifier. The remainder of the group is composed of No. 8 Canada, No. 51 Jamaica and No. 127 Saint Kitts and Nevis, while El Tri ranks at 26 in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings. As you can see, Mexico is the second-best ranked team of the batch, but it most certainly cannot believe that Jamaica and Saint Kitts and Nevis will be a breeze. The Reggae Girlz are in the comedown of their first-ever FIFA Women's World Cup appearance and will be hungry for another major tournament appearance. As for Kittitians and the Nevisians, they have not tasted defeat in their last seven outings including a 4-1 win over Trinidad and Tobago before the turn of the year having lost to them back in 2014, 10-0.
