According to reports coming in from England, this will be the first of at least three moves for Spurs during the ongoing transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur has granted one of Jose Mourinho's requests, and they have landed themselves one big signing for the immediate future.

Earlier today, the London-based side confirmed the signing of 21-year-old midfielder Gedson Fernandes, who left Benfica to work unde Mourinho's wing. The player will join Spurs on an initial 18-month loan spell, when the English club will have to decide if they pay the $65M buyout clause established on the player's contract.

Fernandes gets to the club as one of Portugal's hottest prospects. He played for every youth category in Portugal's national team system, and he has already made his debut with the Portuguese senior team. He was key to Benfica's Primeira Liga title last season, but a disagreement with coach Bruno Lage forced him to search for pastures new.

Fernandes was also linked to a loan move to Chelsea and West Ham, but Mourinho's desire to have him around was enough to help the youngster make up his mind. The midfielder is seen as the long-term replacement of Christian Eriksen (set to leave the club) or Moussa Sissoko (injured).

Fernandes is the first of a reported three signing for Tottenham, who are still working out deals to hire a striker and possibly a defender, in order to help the team's current woes in defense and to replace Harry Kane, who could be out for the rest of the season due to an untimely injury.
