The Red Devils boss opened up about the gulf in quality between his team and Liverpool ahead of Sunday's trip to Anfield.

Man United are gearing up for a crucial Premier League showdown with Liverpool, the most rampant side in Europe at the moment. The Red Devils, once the best in England, will visit the team that is currently bossing the English top-flight.

Ahead of this clash, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke about the league leaders and reflected on his team’s current footing. With the glory days under Sir Alex Ferguson a mere distant memory now, the Norwegian admitted that Klopp’s side are the ones they must surpass if Man United wish to return to the top.

However, the under-fire Old Trafford boss also admitted that the gap between Man United and Liverpool is immense. Furthermore, he added that the Red Devils might not be able to challenge for a few more seasons but stressed that quality signings would help bridge that gap.

"That is the aim, of course," Solskjaer said about Man United’s aspirations of reclaiming their title as the best in England. "I’m not saying it is a realistic one. We are behind and a fair rate behind the top one now, who we play on Sunday and we’ll see where we are against them.

"But with a few signings, with the improvement these are making, in the next couple of years we want to do that.

"Supporters and the club alike are not happy with not challenging for the top position in the league. That is where we feel we should be and many of today’s supporters have lived that period where we won the league consistently."

Currently, Rashford and Co. are merely fighting to make the top-four once again. Last season, the 20-time Premier League champions finished in sixth and are in the fifth spot at the moment, five points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea.

Solskjaer’s side are the only team to pick up a point against Liverpool this season, drawing 1-1 at Old Trafford back in October. Will they be able to stop Klopp’s rampant side once more? Tune in to find out.
