The Portuguese manager was left surprised by the decision not to send the defender off.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has slammed the Video Assistant Referee after it failed to sanction Liverpool's Andrew Robertson for an infringement in side's defeat on Saturday. The Scottish full-back launched a reckless studs-up lunge on Japhet Tanganga in the second half but successfully escaped punishment with the referee refusing to award Spurs a foul.

The incident unfurled after Robertson lost possession of the ball in the 66th minute and in an attempt to recover it, sent the young debuntant to the ground with a rather wild tackle to his ankle. Players and fans alike were subsequently left baffled by referee Atkinson's decision not to punish the full-back not consult the VAR.

Speaking at the end of the encounter, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho suggested VAR officials were not following the game.

"They were lucky. They could perfectly finish the game with ten, because the VAR at that time, they were having a tea and they didn't watch Robertson for a red card."

Mourinho then compared the situation to the VAR review which resulted in Son Heung-min being sent off after his foul on Antonio Rudiger during Spurs' 2-0 home defeat to Chelsea on December 22. Watch his post-match reaction below:
