The Gabonese star was sent off after intervention from VAR, following in the footsteps of the Gunners' Spanish coach.

Arsenal’s trip to Crystal Palace began perfectly as the Gunners went in search of a third consecutive win in all competitions. After only 12 minutes of play, Abuameyang found the back of the net to hand the visitors an early lead.

And that’s how things remained until the break, with all the signs pointing to a comfortable triumph for the north London giants. However, only 11 minutes after the break, Arsenal conceded an equalizer. At the 67th minute, things went from bad to worse as Aubameyang was sent off.

The Gabonese star landed himself in trouble after an awful tackle on Meyer, catching the Palace man on his ankle. The striker was initially booked but after an intervention from VAR, this decision was turned into a straight sending off.

This saw the 30-year-old reach an unwanted milestone last set by current manager Mikel Arteta. The Gabonese became the first Arsenal player to score and get sent off in the same game since the Spaniard in 2013 against none other than Crystal Palace at none other than Selhurst Park.

Despite the one-man advantage, Hodgson’s side were not able to beat the Gunners, settling for the 1-1 draw. As a result, the Eagles remain in ninth while Arsenal continues to occupy the 10th spot.
