The Reds will be without their playmaker ahead of the test with Jose Mourinho's side.

Liverpool has been hit with another news of injury ahead of the weekend's blockbuster clash with Tottenham Hotspur. The Reds' manager, Jurgen Klopp, on Friday, confirmed that midfield star Naby Keita has picked up a muscle injury which will rule him out of the upcoming fixture.

Since arriving from Leipzig in 2018, injuries have plagued Keita's stay with the rest and continue to affect his development. Ahead of the January 2 Premier League encounter with Sheffield United, the Reds' No. 8 had to be dropped after pulling his groin in the warm-up session.

Against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, the Guinean playmaker is not expected to be available as so is his midfield counterpart James Milner. Per the extent of the pair's respective injuries, they are also likely to miss the epic home clash against Manchester United on January 19.

"James and Naby are not available. Both are muscle injuries, different and for different people, so we see how quick they will be," Klopp told a news conference on Friday.

"We really don't have to put a time-frame on it because we don't know it exactly. We will see, we are open and whenever they want to join us again, they can – or when the medical department gives the green light.

"For sure, not for this weekend, not for next week [against Man United), but then we will see."
