Qatari-based sports network beIN Sport have purchased UEFA Euro 2020 rights.

The 51-match competition will be showcased across three networks in France, hosts of the previous edition which Portugal conquered.

Free-to-air TV channels TF1 and M6 will share the broadcast of 23 Euro 2020 matches. Since November 26, it has been understood the duo had each tabled $27.7 million (25 million euros) to buy those 23 fixtures.

On Tuesday afternoon, L'Equipe revealed that the broadcast rights of the remaining 28 European Championship games had found a buyer in the form of beIN Sports. The price? $42.3 million (38 million euros)… only, by the Qatari network's standard! Too expensive, however, for Mediapro who had eclipsed themselves from the race as president Jaume Roures revealed in mid-December that "the value to attract subscribers is very low and this is not part of our project".

The agreement, reached between beIN Sport and UEFA's agency CAA Eleven, includes a top quality line-up of Euro 2020 programming from behind-the-scenes footage to the pitches.

The pay-television broadcaster had purchased Euro 2016 broadcast rights for $66.8 million.

The 2020 European Championship is expected to generate over $97 million for UEFA on the French territory, less than four years ago when France 2016 brought them more than $120 million in broadcast rights. The 24-team tournament will be played in 12 European cities from June 12 to July 12.

Global broadcast listings will be updated in due time on Live Soccer TV's UEFA Euro 2020 competition page.
