Man City preparing for life after Guardiola?

Report: Manchester City starting to look for Guardiola's replacement

December 10, 2019 By Oscar Rojas
The Spanish boss has never been in charge of the same team for over four years, and the team's hierarchy feels that Pep could call it quits this summer.

A poor start of the season and finishing the Premier League empty-handed for the first time since 2017 could see Pep Guardiola's era coming to an end at Manchester City, according to a report by The Athletic.

The Spanish boss is not enjoying life at the Etihad this season, since the team is currently third in the EPL and with their title chances almost fading away due to Liverpool's impressive form. With that in mind, and with 22 games to go in the English top-flight, the Citizens seem to be preparing for life after their Spaniard tactician.

Man City execs believe that there are two main reasons for being interested in leaving the club. First off, the former Bayern coach has never been in charge of a team for over four years, and even if he still has one year left in his contract, Guardiola does not seem to have the same drive to try and turn things around for the club.

The second reason for his alleged desire to leave is the fact that he will need to oversee the departures of David Silva and Fernandinho, two ageing players that seem to be living their final seasons at the Etihad. Following the experience he lived by letting Vincent Kompany leave the club, being forced to bid farewell to these players is something he'd like to avoid.

According to the report, Man City's hierarchy has already started talking to some coaches, who could take a backroom role for the moment to get a grip on Manchester City's ways before they take the full-time coaching gig.

This move, however, could be one more reason for Guardiola to leave the club, since knowing that your own club is searching for your replacement is not something a coach of Pep's caliber is willing to allow.
