Pep discusses Man City's EPL title chances

Guardiola makes Premier League title admission after Manchester derby defeat

December 7, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Spanish manager's side picked up its fourth league defeat of the season.

Pep Guardiola has admited that Manchester City's title challenge is 'unrealistic' following Saturday's derby defeat to Manchester United. The Spanish manager's side saw its chances of defending last season's Premier League title being dealt a huge blow as a result of the 2-1 loss it picked up versus their cross-town rivals.

First-half goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial condemned the Citizens to their fourth loss of the season as Nicolas Otamendi's 84th-minute only proved to be a consolation. Currently, the Etihad outfit ranks third on the league log after amassing 32 points from a potential 48 and trail leaders Liverpool by 14 points.

Having suffered four defeats this season, Pep Guardiola's side has already matched the total number of losses registered in last season's successful campaign. When quizzed about his side's chances of retaining the league after Saturday's clash, the Spanish manager was not forthcoming but admitted that his side pipping Liverpool almost seems impossible.

"It's not time to think about that. Whether it's six, seven, eight or nine points, I say the same every time. We think about what we have to do and we think about the next game," he told Sky Sports.

"It's unrealistic to think about catching up, whether it's six points, seven points, 14 points, two points. We are a fantastic team, we can play so good."

He added: "We are a little bit more open but sometimes that can happen. United, with these four players up front, that is normal but in general, we played a good game."

Manchester City will take on Arsenal in its next Premier League fixture while Liverpool will go head to head with lowly-placed Watford.
