Spurs reaches unwanted EPL milestone in loss

Tottenham reaches unwanted Premier League milestone as Mourinho suffers first defeat

December 4, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The London club failed to continue their winning run at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur has attained an unwanted Premier League milestone following Wednesday's defeat at Manchester United. The North London outfit failed to pick up the maximum points for the first time since the Portuguese manager's arrival, extending their losing run against the Red Devils to 35 - a record in the English top-flight league.

Before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side became the team that has defeated Tottenham Hotspur the most in the history of the Premier League, there was a glimmer of hope for the White Lilies to potentially get the best of their host. After Marcus Rashford had opened the scoring in the sixth minute, Dele Alli ensured that the game was tied before half-time by grabbing a remarkable goal inside the 39th minute.

Despite dictating the tempo of the game for most parts of the game, failure to put their chances to good use always meant doom for the visitors. It did not take long until what their fans dreaded most manifested with a penalty decision going in favor of Manchester United and Marcus Rashford finishing it off to put his side ahead again in the 49th minute. There was no major action from that point onward as Spurs were subsequently condemned to their fifth Premier League defeat of the season.

Currently, they rank eighth with 20 points and Manchester United now occupies sixth with just a point better than the London club.
