Cristiano Ronaldo decided not to attend one more gala where he would not be the winner of a trophy, and contrary to what happened in other ceremonies, one of his peers decided to aim a slight dig at him.
Speaking before the ceremony even took place, Ballon D'Or runner-up and 2019 UEFA Champions League winner with Liverpool Virgil Van Dijk spoke about his chances of winning the award, which ended in Lionel Messi's hands. Van Dijk had no chill in referring to Cristiano Ronaldo's absence on Monday's event, and he even snubbed any chance the Portuguese had of winning the trophy with a cheeky taunt.
Reporter to Virgil van Dijk: "Cristiano Ronaldo won't be here tonight, so that's already one less rival to care about."

Once the ceremony ended, Van Dijk was revealed as the man that could have taken the award from Messi's hands, but maybe it is not what CR7's supporters will remember when time goes by.
