The Argentine footballer named one major reason to enjoy this award that may not be what his fans wanted to hear.

Lionel Messi has officially won his sixth Ballon D'Or trophy, but the Argentine footballer has left one of the most emotional speeches out there when accepting the award.

Right after being handed the trophy by last year's winner, Luka Modric, Messi took the podium to share his views on winning a sixth award of the sort. While he dedicated this award to his friends as family -a common thing in this type of ceremony- Messi left a couple of phrases in the air that could signal the end of an era in the world of football.

"I never stopped draming and enjoying football when I was a boy. I wish I still have many years to enjoy it, but I am aware of my age and I know time goes flying by. I know that the time to retire is closing in," Messi said.

The 6-time Ballon D'Or winner looked back at how things have changed since he picked his first award back in 2009. "I remember my first Ballon D'Or, I got here with my brothers. Now, I'm picking up my sixth with my family sitting right there, it was absolutely unthinkable back then," Messi added.
