Transfer: Zidane addresses Vinicius Jr exit claims

Transfer: Zidane addresses Vinicius Jr exit claims

November 29, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The French manager has spoken out on the persisting rumor about the youngster.

Real Madrid headcoach Zinedine Zidane has ruled out the sale of Brazilian youngster Vinicius Jr in the winter transfer window. Reports from Spain suggested that the out-of-favor Brazilian winger will be made to depart on loan to another club in January, having failed to nail down a spot as a regular in Los Blancos' lineups.

After impressing amid the Bernabeu outfit's struggles last season, the 19-year-old forward has failed to hit the ground running in this new campaign. His inability to replicate last season's form has seen him fall down the pecking order whereas Eden Hazard's arrival this summer has also limited his chances of playing. Of the last nine squads selected by Zinedine Zidane, the Brazilian prodigy has been left him out of five of such, a situation which the youngester has deemed as unpleasant.

Back in August, Marca reported that a host of clubs including PSG and Arsenal were all after Vinicus, but the proposals were eventually rejected with Real Madrid reiterating that he remains 'untransferable'. Despite his development stalling in recent months, his manager Zidane has maintained that he remains part of his plans and has squashed the prospect of the teenager joining another club in January.

"He's a member of this squad. There are 26 players here and perhaps he's not playing so much at the moment but he'll get his chance and will contribute, as ever, like all the players do.

"He'll get his chance and he has to be ready to take it. Things have changed since last season because we've got Hazard and Rodrygo, who are both in good form.

"Last year he did a brilliant job and he wants to do the same when he gets time on the pitch. I have to choose, that's my job, it won't change."

With Eden Hazard picking up an injury in the midweek's Champions League draw with PSG, Vinicius is expected to possibly regain his form with Real Madrid's upcoming games against Alaves, Espanyol and Club Brugge.
