Solskjaer's boys almost reached the promise land after staging a remarkable fight in the last 20 minutes of the encounter.

A debatable VAR decision ensured that Sheffield grabbed a deserved point after Manchester United almost completed a comeback win in Sunday's Premier League fixture. The Red Devls fought back from two goals down to take the lead but had their party ruined by a late McBurnie strike.

Up until the 72nd minute, it almost looked certain that the Blades would secure yet another historic win against a "Top Six" side this season. Goals from John Fleek and Lys Mousset put Chris Wilder's men in the driving seat with Manchester United struggling to get involved in the action.

However, the tide eventually turned when academy star Brandon Williams fired in a half-volley to reduce the goal deficit to just one with 18 minutes of regulation time left to play. Five minutes later, his compatriot Mason Greenwood restored parity with a toe-poke finish, having only replaced Andreas Pereira five minutes earlier.

Marcus Rashford, who assisted Greenwood for United's second, made it a hat-trick of goals from the Red Devils' academy graduates by bagging the third goal of the afternoon. Nevertheless, the in-form England startlet's strike could not seal the maximum points for the visitors with substitute Oliver McBurnie scoring Sheffield's equalizer right on the 90th minute.

A brief moment was taken before play resumed as the goal was subjected to a VAR review amid protest from Manchester United players. Prior to smashing the shot past David de Gea, McBurnie appeared to have controlled the ball with his arm but the check subsequently confirmed that the ball had hit his shoulder instead.

Watch:

With the draw, Sheffield United moves to sixth on the league table with 18 points from 13 outings while Manchester United ranks ninth with 17 points. The Red Devils are currently eight points away from a top four place.
