Simply astonshing!

Three minutes. That was all it took for Gabriel "Gabigol" Barbosa Almeida to immortalize himself in the history of Flamengo for his role in the dramatic Copa Libertadores win on Saturday.

The epic grand finale in Lima, Peru, served up an intriguing climax with the Brazilian outfit snatching the title out of River Plates' grip at the death. Two incredible late goals by Gabigol lifted the Rubro-Negro to their continental glory exactly 38 years after winning their first.

Prior to the masterclass finish by Jorge Jesus' men, River Plates majorly dominated the earlier part of proceedings, and were duly rewarded with a goal in the 14th minute. Up until the 88th minute, it looked almost certain that the trophy was on its way to Argentina only for the unexpected turn of events to ensue.

Gabigol was called into action to restore parity in the 89th minute by simply tapping home Arrascaeta's pass across the face of goal and subsequently capitlized on a River defensive error inside the second minute of additional time to seal the historic victory.

Three minutes later, the 23-year-old Inter Milan loanee was sent off for his involvment in an argument. Watch all the goals below:

Interestingly, Flamengo's Copa Libertadores title win on Saturday happened on the exact date as the club's first win in 1981. On the fateful day inside the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the legendary Zico scored twice to secured the 2-1 victory over Chilean side Cobreloa.
