Transfer: Zlatan Ibrahimovic edges closer to AC Milan return

November 20, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
A reunion is beckoning.

Former Swedish international Zlatan Ibrahimovic is edging closer to reuniting with AC Milan following his stint in the MLS. The 38-year-old striker has began talks with the Rossoneri with a move in January reportedly on the card.

Following LA Galaxy's elimination in the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs semifinals, Ibrahimovic announced that he was going to bring his spell in the Major League Soccer to an end. The striker, who arrived from Manchester United in March 2018, enjoyed a successful spell, scoring 52 goals in only 56 appearances for the Galaxy.

Known for instigating controversies, the Swedish forward did not leave quietly and agitated fans with an interesting farewell message.

"I came, I saw, I conquered," he posted on Twitter, alongside an artwork of him overlooking Los Angeles.

"To the Galaxy fans -- you wanted Zlatan, I gave you Zlatan. You are welcome. The story continues ... Now go back to watch baseball."

Having solidified his legacy in the United States, reports in recent weeks indicated that Serie A clubs Bologna and AC Milan were keen on bringing Ibrahimovic back to the Italian league. However, report by Sky Italia has revealed that the latter is leading the race for the veteran forward.

Officials of the San Siro outfit met with his agent Mino Riaola on Wednesday with a fruitful discussion ensuing. The report further cites that both parties are hoping to make "compromises" for Zlatan's return to be completed and the Milan club is looking forward to tying him down to an 18-month deal.

Relatively the former Manchester United and La Galaxy star will possibly lower his wage demands in a bid to help his old club back to the top. In his first stint which spanned between 2010 and 2012, he registered 56 goals in 85 games while leading them to the Serie A title in 2011.
