Bale sparks controversy after holding up Wales flag with Real Madrid joke

November 20, 2019 By Ali M.
The attacker, who has been accused of lacking commitment towards Los Blancos, held this flag after guiding his national team to Euro 2020.

Gareth Bale finds himself in trouble once again with Real Madrid and the fans after holding up a flag which has been deemed disrespectful.

The Welshman was at hand for his national team in their clash with Hungary, helping the Dragons book their ticket to Euro 2020. The 30-year-old set up Aaron Ramsey for the opening goal in the 2-0 victory.

During the post-match celebrations, Bale and his fellow countrymen help up the Wales flag with the words “Wales.Gold.Madrid” written on it in that order. This is, of course, a reference to recent criticism made against the former Tottenham ace.

The attacker has been accused of lacking commitment towards Los Blancos, with some arguing that he prioritizes Wales and gold ahead of his employers. Gareth has previously admitted to finding this chat amusing and was probably mocking his critics but this move did not sit well with the Spanish giants, with ESPN claiming that the club have been left angered by his “bad joke”.

Bale is an unpopular figure among the Bernabeu crowd and has endured a falling out with Zidane. The Welshman appeared destined for an exit over the summer after failing to see eye to eye with the French tactician but injury to Asensio forced him to stay.

He has not featured for Los Merengues since October 5, which is why fans criticize his commitment but should be back in contention now that the international break is wrapping up.
