Klopp vs Guardiola head-to-head record

Klopp vs Guardiola head-to-head and Premier League record so far

November 8, 2019 By Ali M.
The two best club football managers will go head-to-head on Sunday in the highly-anticipated Anfield showdown.

Liverpool and Man City will lock horns this weekend in what is the most highly-anticipated game of the weekend, and possibly the season as well. With the Reds and the Citizens being the two favorites for the title, this clash could go a far way in deciding the title race.

One interesting aspect of this encounter is the clash between Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola. Despite the mutual respect they hold for one another, they are the top two managers in club football right now who have traded blows on numerous occasions. Sunday is tipped to be another thrilling encounter.

Their rivalry dates back to the time they spent together in the Bundesliga, with Klopp managing Dortmund and Pep being in charge of Bayern Munich. The two tacticians have faced off 16 times now, with the later encounters coming in the Premier League.

Oddly enough, the head-to-head record is dead-even ahead of the weekend showdown, with both managers enjoying seven wins each. The remaining two encounters ended in draws, including Man City’s last visit to Anfield.

Nonetheless, one might come to the assumption that both managers have fared equally since arriving in England. This is far from the truth. While Klopp’s side could blow the Citizens out of the title race this season – a win on Sunday would see them move nine points ahead of them – Pep has outperformed the German.

The Reds boss has one full season over his counterpart but despite managing 155 league games compared to the Spaniard’s 125, the pair have won the same number of English top-flight games: 95.

This means that Klopp’s win rate of 61 percent holds nothing against Guardiola’s 76.6 percent, which is the best ever by any manager in Premier League history. Nonetheless, form favors Van Dijk and Co. as the Merseyside giants are yet to lose a single game. Do not miss Sunday’s clash!
