Xhaka linked with move to another EPL side

Xhaka tipped to leave Arsenal for EPL side after being stripped of captaincy

November 8, 2019 By Ali M.
The former Gunners captain will reportedly hand in a transfer request after losing the armband.

Granit Xhaka’s future at Arsenal has been cast into huge doubt after the recent unfolding at the club. After his infamous altercation with the fans, the Swiss midfielder was eventually stripped of the captaincy, with the decision being revealed prior to the Europa League clash with Vitoria.

The former Bundesliga ace was jeered by the Emirates Stadium crowd during the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace as he was being substituted. The midfielder in response took his time to vacate the pitch, which resulted in booing from the home fans, with the then captain aiming profanity at the supporters before ripping off his shirt and storming down the tunnel.

It did not take long for Arsenal lovers to demand he be stripped of the captaincy. At first, Emery refused to deny nor confirm whether he would be relieved of his duties. However, the armband was eventually taken off of him and passed down to Aubameyang.

The player, who has been dropped from the club’s last three games, is now reportedly set to hand in a transfer request to ensure his spot in the Switzerland squad for Euro 2020 doesn’t suffer. The Sun claims that Newcastle are ready to offer him a lifeline and bring him to St. James’ Park.

The Magpies are in the hunt for midfield reinforcement and Xhaka would be a great addition. However, whether the player is open to a move to Newcastle remains unknown. Furthermore, Newcastle might find it difficult to match his current wages.

Arsenal have been struggling as of late, failing to win any of their last four games in all competitions. Next up for the Gunners is a league trip to a Leicester side that sit third in the table in what should be a difficult task.
