Serbia boss Vladimir Petrovic has called for Milan Jovanovic to be given more chances at Liverpool after the forward tuned in an impressive performance in Serbia's 2-1 win over Northern Ireland.
Milan Jovanovic joined the English giants on a free transfer from Standard Liege last summer but he has never really made any impact on the team so far. Having started slowly under Roy Hodgson, he has found opportunities under Kenny Dalglish something even harder to come by; making only two appearances since Dalglish took over.

Jovanovic was praised for his performances in Serbia's World Cup campaign last summer- starting all three of their group matches and even scoring the winner against Germany. However, he has not been given a lot of chances at Liverpool and has relatively been slipping down the ranks there.

His lack of appearance prompted Petrovic to drop him from the first team but he fully justified his ability after putting on an impressive performance against Northern Ireland as a second half substitute.

Petrovic said: "I am not surprised by Milan. I know he is a player who can play at a very high standard. It is impossible that such a good player would forget how to play football.

"He is special and he had a special desire to play for us here. In the past he has been one of our best players and I think he deserves more chances [with Liverpool]. If he gets chances he will soon be on the same level again."

Asked if Jovanovic should consider leaving Anfield in the summer, Petrovic was less forthcoming, adding: "Only he will answer whether he should leave or not. I don't want to speak about that."

With the arrivals of Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll, a move away from Anfield seems the most likely although there haven’t been any rumors over potential suitors.
