Primeira Liga - Matchday 10 listings, including Benfica vs Rio Ave

November 1, 2019 By Oscar Rojas
The Eagles will want to make the most out of Porto's draw last week and try to extend their lead at the top of the Portuguese league.

The 2019-20 Primeira Liga season is picking up a good pace, with Benfica now on top of the league thanks to Porto's recent slip-up against Maritimo.

Since Matchday 9 took place during the week, Matchday 10's activity will begin this Saturday, in order to give those teams that played on Thursday enough down time. November 2 will be an important day for Benfica, as they will defend their No.1 spot against Rio Ave, a team that has drawn their two most recent games.

Sunday will also bring quite a few interesting moments, as Sporting will try to climb back on the podium when they visit Tondela. The day's final fixtures will also have a direct effect on the top 3 race, as Porto will host Aves and the surprising Famalicao will take a trip to visit a struggling Braga side.

Team news - Who's in, who's out?

  • Benfica will have to face this weekend's game without only one player, as Rafa has been the only player ruled out for this clash.

  • Porto will host Aves without two players. Sergio Oliveira picked up an injury during the week game against Maritimo, and he will sit this one out right alongside Romario Baro.

  • Famalicao will face their tie against Braga without Fabio Martins, since he is ineligible to play against his parent club.

Quotes ahead of Matchday 10

Porto's boss Sergio Conceicao hmay have to face a ban from Primeira Liga authorities, since he went over his head with a recent statement after the draw against Maritimo. The tactician admitted that he was not satisfied with the outcome of the game, but his expletive language could force him to pay over $3000 for his choice of words.

"I know I will be slammed on social media after this result. I'm taking a sh*t in my pants right now," were the words used by the coach. The main problem for him is that the statement was broadcast live on Portuguese TV.

Key stats ahead of Primeira Liga's Matchday 10

  • Porto has won nine straight home games.

  • Benfica has kept a clean sheet in five of their most recent six games.

  • Aves has lost seven away games in a row.

  • Sporting enters this weekend's game on a three-game winning streak.

  • Fabio Martins has scored 25 % of Famalicao's goals this season...and he will not be around to face Braga.
