The 26-year-old Italian international is expected to stay with the Parc des Princes side until at least 2024.

It's been seven years since Verratti completed a move from Serie B side Pescara to PSG and the midfielder's transfer will go down in history as one of the biggest bargains considering how influential he has been for Les Parisians since arriving. In his stay at the French capital outfit, he has successfully to the side winning six league titles as well as four Coupe de France and five Coupe de la Ligue trophies respectively.

Veratti's incredible performance subsequently drew interest from Barcelona in 2017 but despite the Catalans' persistence, PSG maintained its stance that the player was not for sale. On Wednesday, the reigning Ligue 1 champions professed that the Italian has committed his long-term future to the club, bring an end to the prospect of an imminent exit.

"The club is pleased to announce the extension of Marco Verratti's contract for three additional seasons," PSG's official Twitter account tweeted.

"The Italian midfielder, who will turn 27 next Tuesday, is now signed through June 30, 2024."

Marco Verratti has so far made a total of 282 appearances for PSG across all competitions, scoring nine goals overall.
