The footballer celebrated his 59th birthday in advance with this curious gesture by rival club Newell's Old Boys.

Love him or hate him, but you have to admit that Diego Maradona sure knows how to have a good time.

In the eve of his 59th birthday, the former World Cup winner with La Albiceleste traveled to Marcelo Bielsa Stadium with his club, Gimnasia La Plata, where he'd clash against Newell's Old Boys. With both teams fighting to avoid relegation, some could expect a war between the teams, but what went down seemed more like a celebration of the legend's life.

Maradona, who played for Newell's during the second half of 1993, was met by the club's hierarchy as he made his way into the pitch. As he headed to his bench, he found a throne crafted specially for him, where he would be able to watch the game in style.

A visibly moved Maradona waved at Newell's radical fans that welcomed him into the stadium, while he proceeded to sign the throne. Moments later, he sat there with an energy drink to coach his club to an emphatic 4-0 win.

Gimnasia managed to leave the last place of the Superliga Argentina standings, and maybe this game could be the turning point in their season as they try to avoid relegation.
